Interview with Sigmund Skard

16.09.2015, Valevåg, Sveio, Hordaland, Norway
Q: Why / when / how did you start to work with performance, what is your background, how did you arrive at doing performance?
I like the living things, not the museum art. I started in 2002. I got inspired by a school of art in Stavanger. I was a teacher and before that I had learned some theatre and drama at a Folk High School.
Q: What is your process like when you make a performance, from idea to actual work?
I get inspired by everyday things, life and people and then I like to try it out in the studio and surroundings.
Q: Can you tell about your latest project?
It’s a cooperation with a college and a continuation of a project about tandem. We made a bottle with two ends and showed how this can be drunk. This happened in a café/bar in Oslo last month.
Q: What role does performance art have in your life / artistic praxis? Do you also work within other fields, like installation, sculpture, drawing, other expressions? How do they influence / inform each other?
I also make sculpture and one of my last works was a combination of performance and sculpture. There was a sculpture left behind, a sculpture of wooden material.
