PAO believes that mixing performance art with public monuments and public art is a highly interesting and important combination. Monuments and public art
represent power, history and permanence. At the same time, many monuments and public artworks are often not noticed as they usually recede into the cityscape and are ignored. In contrast, performance art is temporal, demands attention and is very much alive. By adding performance art, monuments and artworks become temporarily re-activated and in many ways “performative monuments” or “a monument that can talk”. In doing so, they may take on a contemporary appraisal or shift in meaning to match current political, economic, social and cultural themes.
PAO Monumental is a performance event organized for PAO members.
Supported by: Norsk Kulturråd
Organized by PAO member: Kirsty Kross
